Introduction

The instructor is responsible for induction, training, trade test preparation, trade testing and undertaking various competency assessements. Other responsibilities include preparation of progress reports, client feedback, visits to host companies, adhering and enforcing health and safety and assuming leadership role in their departments

Duties & Responsibilities

Training

  • Upon commencement of training, undertake induction program for new intake
  • Facilitate theoretical training and workshop practical training for the Apprentioceships, Learnerships, Trade Test Preparation, Gap Training, Skills Programmes and any other type of training
  • Complete training reports
  • Adhere to the strict training schedule and ensure training is completed within the scheduled period
  • Ensure that tasks for all modules are assessed
  • Ensure adherence to the company’s and legislated health and safety standards
  • Take daily roll calls for apprentices and report any anomaly to the internal sales administrator
  • Participate in client feeback meetings taking place either at Technotrain or at the client’s premises
  • Vist host companies to assist in monitoring of apprentices progress during the compulsory on-the-job training when requested
  • Ensure risk assessment are completed by learners and sign as an acknowledgement that the risk assessment was done
  • Advice of any required deviations or recommended amendments pto the Merseta training logbook

Assessments and Moderation

  • Administer various assessments such as trainability, RPL, work readiness assessments
  • Undertake trade tests/summative assessments in compliance with the NAMB/QCTO/SETA or any other standards set by other quality control bodies
  • Complete assessment reports and submit to the Operations Manager/Operations Administration  Assistant for further submission to clients
  • Administer internal moderation for assessments and complete moderation reports
  • Participate in External Moderation at other training centres where requested by NAMB

Commercial

  • Assist with input for budgets, business plans, forecasts and strategy formulation
  • Assist with input for capex planning and other such capacity planning needs
  • Ensure correct general ledger codes are used when completing requisition
  • Use only approved suppliers for regular material and consumables. In the event that a non-approved supplier is used, obtain three quotes
  • Assist with the accreditation process

Leadership

Assume leadership role by:

  • Continuous wearing of personal protection plan
  • Time keeping
  • Where necessary, be able to work beyond ”normal” working hours to meet work related demands
  • Adherence to generally acceptable behaviour, integrity, honest and maintain high moral ground
  • Take full responsibility as a section 8(1) & (2) apointee under the Occupation, Health and Safety Act no 85 of 1993
  • Identify any weakness within the department or in any area of the business and propose improvements
  • General management of the department

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Must be a Qualified Artisan-Millwright
  • A minimum of five years post qualifications practical work experience
  • Registered Assessor and Moderator
